Hurricane Preparedness Tips
Twenty five years in New Hampshire taught me many things. What it didn't teach me was how to prepare for hurricanes.
Last year was my first hurricane season here in South Florida and it found me uneasy and filled with trepidation. When a storm moves in, regardless of magnitude, the winds blow, the rain comes down in buckets and the sky darkens. That alone is disconcerting. Whatever is not tied down flies around. Palm trees bend in unimaginable positions and all sorts of debris winds up in the swimming pool.
And if that wasn't enough to scare the dickens out of this hearty former New Englander, The Weather Channel's orange information crawler at the bottom of my television sent me over the edge. With its distinctive warning alarm, reminiscent of a nuclear reactor meltdown, it's job of attention getter is extraordinary, particularly in the dead of night.
That first storm had me Googling "Hurricane Preparedness" and putting together my important papers, clothes, and a three day supply of food and water into something folks down here call a "grab and go" bag. Organized by nature, my grab and go bag is a work of art. This year I've added one additional item.

This year I've added Pug's Traveling Prayer Beads. The concept for these prayer beads came as a direct result of my own health scare many years ago. I wanted and needed something to hold onto during a difficult and trying time. Recently I had the opportunity to bring them to reality. Working with a local, South Florida jewelry designer, Pamela Fill Designs, we offer them now to the public for the first time. Use them to comfort and soothe your worried mind during any adversity (including hurricanes!) by gently touching them or to count affirmations.
And perhaps this is my number one hurricane preparedness tip: buy Pug's Traveling Prayer Beads. Regardless of which deity you worship or even if you believe, the natural shells and soothing colors of Pug's Prayer Beads will calm your mind and soothe your soul.
Pug At The Beach Traveling Prayer Beads are available through Pug's Store or through Etsy ~ "Your place to buy & sell all things handmade."
