Shades Of Blue

It's 6:00 pm and snowing in Vermont right now. And it's cold, around 20 degrees. By contrast, Delray Beach is at 65 right now. 65 degrees at 6:00 pm.

When I held the dream of living in a little latitude where the days consistently felt and looked like summer, I knew the concept of snow and cold would, eventually, become foreign to me. What I didn't realize was how quickly that transformation would occur.

I remember all too well the yearly onset of Seasonal Affected Disorder (SAD). Beginning in early October, my blue periods would last intermittently until late May when the sun's rays grew stronger and the days longer. Last winter found me choosing to stay indoors much of the time. Inside my third floor, heat included apartment, life was just nicer than outdoors in the ice and snow and cold. The only trouble was that it wasn't really a life. Yes, I had my work  and my bare feet on carpeted floors, but I didn't have what I truly enjoy - the warm and sunny days of my dreams. Until now.

This afternoon I went for my daily walk on the beach. The sea and sky were six different shades of blue. The water was warm - around 80 degrees according to the life guard information board. The air temperature was around 72. The sand was soft and my mood was decidedly blue - six different shades of blue - the shades of dreams come true.

My wish for you is that you choose the colors of your own dreams and then decide how to make those colors part of your daily life. If you're in need of suggestions, read The Colors Of My Life. Written years ago while I still lived in the snow and cold, it's a poem sure to inspire you. For added measure, look at the photograph below and imagine this is your view as you walk along the beach.

Today, take charge of your life. Make it a beach day whatever that looks like for you!
