Waves

Waiting for a tradesman, I’ve spent the morning listening to smooth jazz on the radio, watching the curly tailed lizards out by the pool, and rewriting some Pug Adventures. I came across this quote from D.H. Lawrence which I’ve incorporated into a piece about facing our fears.
“The races is not to the swift, but to those who can stand still and let the waves go over them.”
If you’re at all uncomfortable in the ocean as I am you know that letting the waves wash over you is simultaneously the best thing to do and the most difficult.
My first reaction is always to turn and run from the wave which inevitably leads to it crashing down on me usually knocking me down. Fortunately I employ that tactic only in the ocean and not in matters on land.
So far the water here in Delray Beach has been mild – not a lot of surf activity. It’s been a pleasant introduction to this beach. The water temps are generally in the lower 80’s and the sunrises are stunning.
The waves of life have washed over me. My wish for you today is that you are able to let the waves of life wash over you, too.
