All It Takes Is One To Lead - White Ibis

Just north of here lies Boynton Beach (of Boynton Beach Bereavement Club movie fame.) When I was up there today I noticed a flock of White Ibis. Standing at 26” tall, this breed of bird uses their long bill to dig in the mud of various waters for crustaceans and frogs. They nest in colonies and this group in particular was unfazed by me taking their photo. Apparently they’re regular visitors to this body of water which is in the middle of a heavily trafficked area of shopping centers and very busy roadway intersection.

This one (below) took on a leadership role. Choosing to leave the status quo of preening by the water’s edge, it made its way across the street.

All the others followed.

Sometimes we just have to get up and lead with no concern for who will follow. If we mindfully do what’s right for ourselves the others will follow. If they don’t, then they’ll find a different path to a journey which is right for them.

Be a leader. You can do it. The forward momentum generated by making that decision to lead will propel you to your dreams. You can do it. Be a leader today. In some small way, be a leader today.
